Clanton’s October 2026 Water and Sewer Rates: Check the Tiers and Tax
Direct answer
Clanton’s water and sewer schedule takes effect October 1, 2026. Water has a $19.72 minimum covering 1,500 gallons and declining usage tiers; sewer has a $13.66 minimum plus $6.92 per 1,000 gallons above 1,500. Commercial customers should confirm account applicability and use the published tax-inclusive water column when reconciling listed charges.
Clanton’s new schedule begins October 1, 2026. Check commercial account scope, water tiers, sewer gallons and the tax-inclusive lookup column before budgeting.
$19.72
Water minimum
Before tax; covers the first 1,500 gallons.
$6.92
Sewer above 1,500 gallons
Per 1,000 billed gallons, plus the $13.66 minimum.
4%
Water tax shown in lookup
The water-plus-tax column already includes water.
Monthly schedule through 100,000 gallons
Apply each rate only to its usage band
The September 17 notice lists these October 1 rates. Water amounts below are before tax; the sewer minimum and usage charge form a separate line.
- Service and band
- Water: first 1,500 gallons
- Published rate
- $19.72 minimum
- Bill-review treatment
- Do not add a separate per-gallon charge for this included volume.
- Service and band
- Water: next 6,500 gallons
- Published rate
- $8.09 per 1,000 gallons
- Bill-review treatment
- Applies to volume from 1,501 through 8,000 gallons.
- Service and band
- Water: next 15,000 gallons
- Published rate
- $6.89 per 1,000 gallons
- Bill-review treatment
- Applies to volume from 8,001 through 23,000 gallons.
- Service and band
- Water: 23,001–100,000 gallons
- Published rate
- $5.82 per 1,000 gallons
- Bill-review treatment
- Earlier bands still retain their own rates.
- Service and band
- Sewer: first 1,500 gallons
- Published rate
- $13.66 minimum
- Bill-review treatment
- Confirm the billed sewer quantity on the account.
- Service and band
- Sewer: above 1,500 gallons
- Published rate
- $6.92 per 1,000 gallons
- Bill-review treatment
- Charge only the quantity above the minimum allowance.
Account and effective date
Start with the provider and service period
The Water Works & Sewer Board of the City of Clanton posted its 2026–2027 rate notice September 17. Both the notice and current incremental lookup schedule identify October 1, 2026 as the effective date. Match the actual service period and utility account before applying the schedule.
The customer rules expressly recognize commercial customers. The general consumption schedule is the starting point for ordinary water and sewer service; the rules also distinguish deposits and hydrant-meter service. Confirm any special service agreement or account-specific treatment with the utility. The schedule is not a new commercial-only tariff.
Minimums and declining tiers
The last tier does not reprice the entire month
At 100,000 gallons, water is $19.72 + (6.5 × $8.09) + (15 × $6.89) + (77 × $5.82), or $623.795 before cent rounding. That reproduces the published $623.80 water row. Applying $5.82 to all 100,000 gallons would omit the minimum and earlier tiers.
Sewer uses a different structure: $13.66 + (98.5 × $6.92) = $695.28 at 100,000 billed gallons. The comparison below assumes the account has both services and the same billed quantity for each. Verify that assumption on the statement before using the combined total.
Reading the lookup table
Add sewer to water plus tax only once
The official PDF has three money columns: sewer, water, and water + 4% tax. The last two are alternative views of the water charge. Adding all three would count water twice. For the selected combined comparison, add sewer to the water-plus-tax column.
At 80,000 gallons, the notice rates produce $507.395 of water before rounding. Multiplying that amount by 1.04 gives $527.6908, which rounds to the printed $527.69. Rounding water first would produce $527.70. Retaining precision reproduces this published row; this arithmetic check does not establish the utility’s internal billing procedure.
Budgeting and bill checks
Keep usage comparisons separate from rate increases
The two rows below use the same October schedule at different volumes. Their $259.46 difference is a usage comparison, not the amount of the annual rate increase. To measure the rate change on a property, hold the account class and billed quantities constant and compare the applicable prior and current schedules.
The listed totals include the schedule’s minimums, water, displayed water tax and sewer at the stated quantity. Deposits, taps, impact fees, garbage, penalties, adjustments and other account lines are outside this example. For quantities above 100,000 gallons, consult the applicable official schedule instead of extending this article’s tier table.
Official lookup rows — selected monthly charges
100,000 versus 80,000 gallons under the same schedule
Assume an ordinary account with water and sewer both billed at the stated quantity. These values copy the October 1 lookup table; water before tax is shown for reference and is not added again.
| Listed charge | 100,000 gallons | 80,000 gallons | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water before tax — reference only | $623.80 | $507.40 | $116.40 |
| Water plus 4% tax | $648.75 | $527.69 | $121.06 |
| Sewer | $695.28 | $556.88 | $138.40 |
| Selected total: water plus tax and sewer | $1,344.03 | $1,084.57 | $259.46 |
$648.75 + $695.28 = $1,344.03; $527.69 + $556.88 = $1,084.57. The $259.46 difference is not a complete-bill forecast or a promised Smart Valve saving. Actual billed quantities, service eligibility and other account lines require confirmation.
Decision checklist
What to check on the first affected statement
- 1Confirm Clanton is the provider, identify the account’s service category and match the billing period to the effective schedule.
- 2Reproduce each water band and keep the included 1,500 gallons inside the minimum. Confirm sewer gallons separately.
- 3Use either water before tax plus the applicable tax, or the published water-plus-tax column. Keep other charges separate and reconcile cents against the official lookup row.
Scope boundary
Where Smart Valve realistically fits
Smart Valve may be relevant to technically addressable metered volume after site conditions, billing treatment and technical feasibility are verified. A change in water use affects sewer charges only where the account’s sewer-billing basis links the two. Any tax effect depends on the taxable charge.
The product does not change the utility’s rates, minimums, tax percentage, deposits or billing rules. The example compares two usage levels; it does not establish achievable volume reduction, installation cost, payback or guaranteed savings.
